You did a great job from what I’ve read so far. I should be an asset to any future hikers wanting to do a Myth hike.

Comment on Note on meaning of “through-hiker” by Mark Peltier http://myth-the-pct.martinot.info/note-on-meaning-of-through-hiker/#comment-9 Tue, 25 Feb 2025 21:35:04 +0000 http://myth-the-pct.martinot.info/?page_id=353#comment-9 My hike was three years. It would of been 2 years but for an medical issue. So I used to define myself as a multi-year and also a long section hiker. I had a argument with a friend who joined me on a third of the trail. He stated to everyone that he was doing a “thru hike” . He wasn’t happy when I said he was doing a long section, not a thru hike, especially since he wasn’t going to do any more of it. So I started to ask fellow hikers their view. Most agreed it was not a “thru hike”. Most were nice and said my hike was relevant and I was a honorary “thru hiker”. The term Multi year thru hiker did come up as well as a long section hiker as my hikes were over 100k each. I personally didn’t want to call myself a “thru hiker” since I know the level of commitment on a daily basis that takes. That said there is a different level of commitment in a myth hike plus the added problems with logistics and getting in shape for each hike. So they are both difficult in their own ways.

This is exactly what I’m doing with my section hiking. As I join segments I am making sure that I connect my foot path.

I can’t wait to read more. I’m heading to Oregon for the first time this summer and want to hike a super small (2-6) miles as I will be with other family for a beach vacation.

I really am interested in going from Timothy Lake to Frog Lake (I know…that is around 9-10 miles) but think the rest want to go to Cascade Locks.

I’ve lost almost 70# and want to train over the next year to do a section next year.

Can’t wait to read more about your journey!

What incredible adventures you must have had over the years. I am working on my first hike of the entire PCT but have hiked 209 miles of it twice. I have hiked the entire state of California and hope to finish the trail this year. Who knows, you may just have motivated me to hike the entire PCT twice. Thank you!
